In a night filled with celebrities, cutting-edge filmmaking and the red carpet, the 10th annual HollyShorts independent film festival welcomed Howling Wolf Productions back for the second year in a row. The festival again called the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre home and HWP had a blast attending again this year. However, we were disappointed to see there was in fact, no Chinese food, just a theatre - but that’s okay too. As soon as the Wolf arrived, he got the chance to give numerous interviews on the red carpet about the latest HWP movie, The Walk, starring Peter Riegert, Sawyer Barth, and our very own, Aaron Wolf.
Last year, HWP premiered Guest House, a comedic short starring Michael Gross, Heather Lind, and Mark Gessner. This year, The Walk, based on an anecdote written by Rabbi David Wolpe that inspired Aaron to turn it into a film, takes center stage. It’s also inspired by walks Aaron took with his grandfather, Rabbi Alfred Wolf.
We also got a chance to check out some of the other films at the festival and they were fantastic! The Pink Helmet Posse, which tells the story of three little girl skateboarders, melted our hearts. While the CG-animated short The Looking Planet, wowed us with its visual scope and the stop-motion film Dogoonauts: Enemy Line made us laugh like crazy. It’s such a great opportunity to see what other filmmakers have created and it’s so inspiring.
There were some familiar faces in the audience like Luke Wilson (Old School), Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld, Veep). It’s such an honor to be showing films in the same festival with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. After the screening, we stopped by the after party at The Roosevelt Hotel. With a drink in hand, we schmoozed the night away with other filmmakers, sponsors, friends and family. We want to congratulate all the winners from this year’s HSFF 2014 and we look forward to going back next year! For more information on HollyShorts click here.
